Akumal is that little corner of the Riviera Maya where time moves more slowly. Without the party scene of Playa del Carmen or the crowds of Tulum, it offers the best of the Mexican Caribbean: a bay with sea turtles, hidden cenotes, white-sand beaches, and a tranquility that will steal your heart. If you have three days, that’s enough time to experience the essentials at a leisurely pace. Here’s our recommended itinerary.

Before you begin: How do you get to Akumal?

Akumal is located on the Cancún–Tulum highway (Km 104), in a prime location:

  • From the Cancún airport: about 1 hour and 15 minutes by car.
  • From the Tulum airport: about 1 hour by car.
  • A Playa del Carmen: unos 30 minutos. A Tulum: unos 20 minutos.

You can get there by rental car, private transportation, or public transportation. If you’d like to leave the logistics to us, our concierge can arrange your transportation.

Day 1: Turtles, the Bay, and Sunset

Tomorrow — Swim with turtles. Get an early start (the bay opens around 8:00 a.m.). At that time, the sea is calm and there are fewer people. Put on your life jacket, wade in from the shore, and enjoy watching the green turtles feeding among the seagrass. Remember to stay 3 meters away and don’t touch them.

Afternoon — Relax on the beach. After snorkeling, there’s nothing better than lying on the white sand, reading, and taking a dip. Take this opportunity to explore the hotel’s amenities: the pool, kayaking, and the spa.

Evening — Dinner with a view of the Caribbean. End your day at our rooftop restaurant, featuring Mexican cuisine made with fresh ingredients and a view that turns any dinner into a memorable experience.

Day 2: Cenotes and Adventure

Tomorrow — Cenote Tour. Spend the day exploring the area’s most impressive natural pools. Cenote Dos Ojos (about 10 km away) is ideal for snorkeling and scuba diving; Yal-Kú, north of Akumal, is perfect for a peaceful snorkeling experience among colorful fish. If you’re up for it, Casa Cenote offers kayaking through the mangroves.

Afternoon — Tulum or more cenotes. You’re just 20 minutes from Tulum: you can visit its archaeological site overlooking the ocean or check out another cenote. Our concierge can put together an itinerary for you, including transportation and a guide.

Evening — Relax at your villa. Head back to your private villa, take a dip in the pool, and unwind. Another day in paradise awaits you tomorrow.

Day 3: Wellness and Unwinding

Tomorrow — Yoga or spa. Start with a private yoga or meditation session overlooking the ocean, or a relaxing massage at the spa. It’s the best way to wrap up your trip by reconnecting with yourself.

Midday — Yal-Kú Lagoon or the beach. One last morning of leisurely snorkeling or relaxing on the beach, with no rush.

Afternoon — Shopping and farewell. Take a stroll through town, buy some handmade souvenirs, and raise a toast to an unforgettable trip before you leave.
